We are the answer for a troubled lawn!

The key to effective and eco-friendly lawn maintenance is to work with nature - not in spite of it.

At EcoCut, this has meant developing a system of lawn care that:

The result is our Better Lawn treatment. It's better than organic - it's natural.

Better Lawn Treatments - Aerate, Seed, Fertilize

Why Aerate & Seed?

An enemy of lawns is soil compaction. Soil compaction is a frequent cause of turf deterioration. It's caused by lawn traffic, like walking and mowing. Soil compaction is greatest (or worse) in the top 2" to 3" of the soil. When soil gets compacted by walking or mowing, dirt particles are forced together. This is a big problem because it reduces the area where your lawns roots can grow.

Aerating lawns just makes sense. For you to maintain a healthy lawn through periods of stress, your lawn soil needs water, air, and nutrients in the top 6" to 10". Soils that are hard and compacted have no nooks and crannies to hold the water, air, or nutrients. Without these crucial components root growth is virtually impossible and greatly impeded to say the least. If your lawns roots aren't growing, the grass won't develop the root system that is essential to survive in hot/dry or harsh/cold periods.

Applying seed after you aerate the lawn ensures that you have good soil connection between your lawn and the seed. The plugs will break down and provide a topdressing for the seed as well. If you keep the seed bed moist for the 10 - 14 days following the treatment the seed will germinate, your lawn will increase it's root length and your lawn will be healthier.

Add-Ons: When Aerating and Seeding Isn't Enough

Corn Gluten Weed Inhibitor

What is a pre-emergent weed inhibitor you ask? Well, the simple answer is that it is a product that prevents seeds from sprouting. When timed properly, it will prevent weeds from germinating, and therefore allowing your lawn to stay thicker and healthier.

Corn gluten is also a fantastic organic fertilizer, as it is 10% (10 - 0 - 0) nitrogen by volume.

We recommend two corn gluten applications - one in spring, one in fall. These are the most optimal time to target a wide variety of weeds, including dandelions in the spring, and crab grass in the fall.

Beneficial Nematodes to Treat Grubs

You generally know if you have grubs when you wake up one morning to find your lawn has been dug up by a critter - usually a racoon. Nematodes are the organic answer to grubs, and they are an effective treatment that also gives your soil a healthy boost. Nematodes are a living microorganism that penetrate the soil and feed on the larvae of many a lawn pest. They do this without effecting other animals such as birds, worms, pets or humans. New nematodes have hit the market that are suited for the colder Canadian climate, which means they can be applied anytime from June to September. If you have a grub problem, Nematodes are what you are looking for.

Dethatching

Dethatching, or power raking as it is also known is a mechanical process which removes the dead layer of grass that accumulates at the base of your lawn's roots. When thatch is allowed to build up it can prevent sun, water and nutrients from penetrating the soil and that is obviously not a good thing. Dethatching will fix that, and let your lawn quite literally breath again.
